Merrylands is well positioned for those using public transport. There are several parks in Merrylands, which is excellent for active families, and these are well utilized by the public.
Other amenities I use include the local heated pool and Merrylands library, which is a reasonable size. Merrylands is very multicultural, and has many new migrant families. There is a variety of "ethnic" cuisines and grocers available.
I feel safe when I'm at the shops and walking to the train station I live off a main road so it is well lit at night. I also feel safe in my unit block and have gotten to know most of my neighbors, by face at least. One of the down sides of living in Merrylands is that the streets are not green or clean. There is often illegal dumping of furniture on the nature strip and the council pick up is only twice a year at this stage.
Some of the unit blocks and houses are not well maintained. The council needs to focus on cleaning up and beautifying the streets to make it more livable. Great review and very accurate.
Transport and shopping is great. But the people are disgusting and rude. The streets are filthy and not pretty. No one upkeeps their lawns and its a depressing sight. Merrylands is a scummy hole I never lived there but used to hang out there with friends when I was a teen got hit from behind with a golf club from 3 big islander lads filthy dogs they are it used to be nice wtf happened.
So I wrote a review, it was long and well detailed on Merrylands. In it I mentioned the crime, gangs, the teachers afraid to teach students because of their associations. All of this and more was deleted. Ill keep it brief, I don't recommend this place at all. I've lived in merrylands for 2 months now and I'm already looking for somewhere else to move to. If anyone has anyway to get out of a rental 1 year agreement. Please let me know. I've lived in the area all my life and what I enjoy most is how easy it is to get anywhere by walking or public transport.
I love grocery shopping here, it is so ethnically diverse that you can buy almost anything; from biltong to baklava. The library is fantastic, and if you enjoy cheap i. What I don't like is how the vermin i. Don't even get me started on the drive-by shootings of late.
I feel there is no nightlife in Merrylands, once its pm, you want to be safe at home. I have lived in Merrylands for the past 5 years and have to admit that I'm considering moving elsewhere. It's extremely convenient being so close to Parramatta, but other than that it's not a very peaceful, serene suburb with neighborly spirit. People are rude and lack manners, which I think is partly due to the large ethnic population in the area.
It's not particularly safe, especially with the recent spate of gun crime. Parking facilities are sub-par near the station, the train into the city takes a good 50 minutes as opposed to the 30 minute drive and in general the roads are congested and drivers are TERRIBLE. My son's daycare centre is fantastic, but sadly I think this is the best part of living in the area. It's overpriced, overpopulated and overrated. There are much nicer places to live in Sydney if you're raising a family!
I have been living in Merrylands for over 15 years and it's not what it used to be. From renting and buying which is very expensive and unworthy of the price tag to high mix of ethnicity make this once beautiful and peace full suburb dangerous and dirty place to live in,rude and low or uneducated population, dirty restaurants,I would not recommend eating out in most of those on Merrylands rd.
Bowling Club must be the best place to be at at the moment. Direct train line to City with average time table, fairly easy to get around. Tries too hard to compete with Parramatta. Very disappointing as I wanted to spend my life here but now am looking at buying and living elsewhere better then here. Great pity it has become what it has and is getting worse in every way possible,a great shame. From the date on this post,it has gotten worse, alot worse and and the surrounding suburbs.
The government send all these thugs from overseas to the Western Suburbs and they act like territorial dogs. So true. We moved there in and it was a beautiful, quiet, sleepy working-class suburb. Nobody knew where it was. Now it's notorious and in the media almost every day for the wrong reasons. The ethnic groups have brought a vibrancy to the suburb and that's fine but the council inspectors need to step up to the mark and clean up the joint and not allow too many junky shops and restaurants.
